Can't allow Azadi March participants to reach D-Chowk in light of court decisions: PM Imran
PM Imran said protests could only be staged at the Parade Ground in Islamabad as per court orders.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that the government cannot allow participants of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl s (JUI-F) Azadi March to reach D-Chowk in Islamabad in the light of court decisions, Dunya News reported on Friday.
Earlier, the talks between government s negotiation team and the opposition s Rehbar Committee over Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl s (JUI-F) Azadi March, hit a deadlock on Friday.
Defence Minister Pervez Khattak who headed the government s negotiation team informed the Prime Minister about the outcome of talks with the opposition s Rehbar Committee.
According to sources, PM Imran said that the government could not allow a protest at D-Chowk or anywhere else in the federal capital with the exception of Parade Ground in light of court orders.
PM Imran said that the government recognized the opposition’s right to protest but could not violate court orders and added that as per the verdicts of the Supreme Court and the Islamabad High Court, protests could only be staged at the Parade Ground in Islamabad.
The Prime Minister said that the government exhibited flexibility and tried to solve the problems according to democratic values during the talks but the opposition attitude was undemocratic.
